IMPORTANT UPDATE – CHANGES TAKING EFFECT FROM MONDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2025.
ONLINE TRIAGE STARTS 10th FEBRUARY
We are writing to keep you informed of changes we are making to the process used for contacting the surgery. We are introducing a new online consultation form, which you can use to contact us, whatever the reason. We are intending that this will be the main way people will contact us to book appointments with the doctor and to make all other enquiries. The only exception will be if you are requesting a home visit or an appointment with the nurse – please phone and speak to a receptionist to do this. We will introduce this from Monday 10th February onwards.
You will no longer need to phone to book an appointment. If you fill in one of the online forms this will go directly to a doctor and be read by a doctor the same day. The doctor will determine the urgency of the problem based on the information given. Depending on the circumstances, we will then contact you to either ask for further information, arrange an appointment for an in-person or telephone assessment, or resolve your enquiry directly.
If you are not able to complete the online form for any reason, you can still telephone and speak to a receptionist in the usual way, the receptionist will ask you some questions to complete the form on your behalf. You will be able to do this in person at the reception desk as well.
Please note that the online form will only be available during surgery opening times and will be disabled out of hours. There may also be times that we need to temporarily disable the online form if, for example, we have received a very large volume of queries or we are short-staffed. You will still be able to phone Reception if the problem is urgent.
We are hopeful that this new system will be easier to use, free up phone lines, and will make it easier to get a correct resolution to your problem first time. Please bear with us if there are any teething problems while we are making this change. We would welcome your feedback and appreciate your patience and support.
The consultation form will be available on the home page of our website on Monday 10 February from 08:30am. You will not be able to access the form before this time.
Extended Access
Rugby Health Limited is a Primary Care Network representing 12 GP Practices in Rugby, who are getting ready to deliver additional services, beyond the 8am-6pm appointments offered by GP Practices currently.
From 01 October 2022, Rugby Health Limited started scheduling additional clinics so that non-urgent check-ups and health-care demands such as smear tests, wound-care, contraceptive care, routine reviews/care for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, review of medication and many other options can be addressed.
These appointments are held at one of the out-of-hours clinics either at Rugby Health and Wellbeing Centre, Drover Close, Rugby or Brookside Surgery, Stretton on Dunsmore.
The appointments are available Monday to Friday 6.30pm-8pm and Saturdays only 9am-5pm.
Appointments can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance. Same day appointments may be available, but cannot be guaranteed.
Cancelling an Appointment
We are always trying to make the best use of our available appointments and are grateful if you cancel appointments you are going to be unable to attend.
Given sufficient notice we can then give your appointment away to another patient.
If you receive a text message reminder about your appointment, you can now text back to let us know if you no longer need it.
Home Visits
If you are too ill to come to the surgery, or are house-bound, please phone the surgery before 10.30am to request a home-visit.
You may be asked for some details so that we can determine the urgency of the visit.
Before the Doctor visits, please ensure that your home is easily identifiable from the road and is safe (e.g. dogs shut away; dogs often misinterpret examinations on their owner as an attack and therefore must be shut away in another room). If the Doctor does not deem it safe, the visit will be cancelled until such a time that it is safe.
Family Planning Advice
Family planning advice is offered to appropriate patients within normal surgery appointments and includes all types of contraceptive advice.
Please visit Sexual Health Warwickshire online or phone 0300 123 6644 (option 2) for the latest information on sexual health clinic appointments available outside of the surgery.
Testing kits are available online by visiting the Sexual Health Warwickshire page.
Information about Community Family Planning Clinics can also be found on the Sexual Health Warwickshire website.
Minor Surgery
The Doctor may advise removal of moles, warts, toenails, etc. This can be done within the surgery in our treatment room. During this appointment, a Doctor and Nurse or Healthcare Assistant will be present.
ECGs
The Doctor may request an ECG be carried out following your consultation. This can be done in the surgery and is usually carried out by a member of the Nursing team. The Doctor will review the ECG and determine the best course of action.
Health Checks
You may make an appointment with one of the Nurse or the Healthcare Assistant to have a health check.
Invitations are sent out regularly by the Health Authority for you to see a Nurse for your cervical smear or for a general health check.
We encourage all patients to accept these invitations, to take an interest in looking after themselves and to keep healthy.
Midwife Appointments
You don’t need to contact us to book an appointment with the midwife. You can self-refer to maternity services on the below website.

Physiotherapy
You can refer yourself for musculoskeletal (only) physiotherapy by using the self-referral form on the below website. For all other specialities, you must be referred by a medical practitioner; please discuss this with your GP if you are unsure.

Primary Care Network (PCN)
Bennfield Surgery is 1 of 12 surgeries within the same Primary Care Network. The PCN consists of GP practices working together, along with other healthcare staff and organisations, providing integrated services to the local population.
Each PCN is given a sum of money and it is up to the PCN to determine how best to spend that money, depending on the needs of the area.
Our PCN has employed a variety of PCN staff to ease the pressures from GPs and to bridge the gap between GP and Hospital referrals.
Some of the staff already employed are:
- Pharmacist
- Occupational Therapist
- Physiotherapist
- Dietitian
- Social Prescribing Link Worker
- Mental Health Link Worker
- Pharmacy Technician
Some of the services offered above are directly bookable by our Reception staff and you may be offered an appointment with one of the PCN staff rather than a GP when phoning for an appointment.
